| To those who think voting is a waste of time - what do you think the politicians think when you don't vote? They think you are a waste of time and if that is the case, why should they look out for your interest? You have to vote - show em that you care and they need to look out for your interests - not just their voting blocs.
It only takes a few minutes to register - I don't care who you vote for - just do it!

| A few days ago I happened to go offsite with a superior across the state. I heard some stories about him being demanding and unreasonable. He also made quite a few enemies along the way.
He is demanding because he has high expectations. Some may say he is unreasonable, but that is only because he pushes his subordinates and co-workers beyond their comfort zone to get the job done. He's a straight shooter so I can see how he can rub some people the wrong way.
However, it is not his pursuit towards perfection nor his ability to lead that I find admirable - it's his integrity.
He made enemies and a number of them outrank him. Even with them pushing and stabbing him in the back; he still gets the job done beyond their expectations. Even when the task at hand is helping the very person that betrayed him.
Even though I question some of his methods, his no-holds barred getting shit done attitude earns a place on my list of people that I respect. I hope that in the future I will be able to love and believe in my job as much as he does in his.
| I remember reading a book that basically says that if you are messing around on company time - you are essentially stealing from the company - something that I agree with until today.
Today was a long day at work. Half of the crew went to a conference, so that means we were relatively swamped with work for the past week. So that means no fun time, group stretch time, nor bs time; I never realized how those little activities make work so enjoyable until it is gone. I usually wake up pumped up for work and now I just work through the day trying to solve problems as fast as possible to end the day. Instead of increasing productivity with increase focus and less time to mess around; I ended up lowering my productivity due to focusing too much and not seeing the bigger picture. At least today I got a big thanks from one of the sergeants - that somewhat redeemed today.
It's funny how those little things immensely adds satisfaction and creativity at work. I suppose the little things do matter.

| Xanga, my neglected outlet of thoughts; or am I the one that neglected myself?
"Look at the big picture."
A phrase that I have also neglected for a while.
There are times when one have to look at the microscopic view of the world to answer questions like how the hell am I going to point Z if I'm still at point A? Unfortunately, i have remained at this viewpoint for a while.
Just as easy as it is to be stuck in the macro view of planning and dreaming; it can be quite alluring to just focus at the task at hand and take a vacation from the world that is outside of our immediate view.
After watching Wall-E, great movie by the way, there was a scene where the Earth was just so polluted that everyone left. I thought to myself, this can be a very possible future for us if we mindlessly disregard global warming. How can everyone be so short sighted? We need to pass laws and regulations to stop this from happening!
Then something lit up in my head - Fuck! I'm one of these people wastefully using resources. Then my thoughts just starting pouring out and cascaded to the following conclusion:
Look at the bigger picture dumbass! Your actions today will affect the future, no matter how small.
Any actions we perform today can be perceived meaningless or downright dangerous if we don't keep our goals, our future in mind.
Dr. Dang, it's time to put back meaning back into your actions.
| In principle, I dislike the idea of holidays. Why can't we celebrate that occasion another day or even everyday? For example, we should be thankful of everything everyday, so why pull all the stops only on Thanksgiving? Then I realized we are not living in an idealistic world. With work and education becoming more prevelant in our lives, it can be easy to lose sight of what is important and become absorbed by the tasks on hand. But thanks to The Holidays, it gives us a good kick in the head reminder to show our appreciation for someone or something. Sure the retail sectors are making a killing off the holidays, but I think its just a side effect of people wanting to show their appreciation for their loved ones. And judging by the sales numbers, a lot of love is being passed around. More expensive equates to better gift? It seems that a lot of people forget that the most valuable gift a person can give is their time. I can get that plasma TV or pair of shoes anytime; but to have someone take time out of their schedule to chill with me is something else. Sure, that microwave will be useful in the future, but the memories we share is something that can never be taken away or recreated. To all the people whom chilled with me over the past year - Thank you. So now you guys see why I didn't get all of y'all Best Buy giftcards :-p | | |
